Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will face each other in the second match of Super Four of Asia Cup 2023 on September 9 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Bangladesh will be playing their second Super Four game after they got thrashed by Pakistan in the first game in Lahore. Bangladesh felt the absence of Najmul Shanto, who was ruled out due to injury, as his replacement Litton Das and other top-order batters did not live up tp the expectations, with the Tigers getting bowled out for 193. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim did score half centuries, but no bowler showed intent to defend the total. Bangladesh will look to come hard against Sri Lanka so as to keep the hopes alive in the tournament.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will enter the Super Four after being on the brink of an exit. They won against Afghanistan by two runs in the last game, eventually sealing the play-off berth in a thriller. Kusal Mendis was magnificent in his 92-run knock and was unfortunate to get run-out at the bowler’s end. The openers got off to a prime start but could not capitalize, losing their wickets for 32 and 41, while Charith Asalanka too played a good hand in the 102-run stand with Mendis, scoring 36.

Kasun Rajitha shone with four wickets while Dunith Wellalage was brilliant with both bat and ball, scoring unbeaten 33 and picking up two wickets too. Sri Lanka have survived a scare in the first round and will look to carry their winning momentum.
