Sri Lanka Squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Complete Player List and Squad Details

Sri Lanka gear up for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with a squad laden with experience and talent. Leading the charge is Wanindu Hasaranga, who took over the T20I captaincy reins last December. His deputy, Charith Asalanka, adds depth to the middle order, promising a formidable partnership at the helm.

Angelo Mathews, a seasoned campaigner, returns to the T20 World Cup fold after nearly three years. With five previous appearances under his belt, Mathews brings a wealth of experience to the squad, having been part of Sri Lanka’s victorious campaign in 2014.

The Sri Lankan squad boast a mix of youth and experience, with players like Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, and Sadeera Samarawickrama adding vigour to the team. Alongside them, the likes of Dasun Shanaka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Kusal Mendis bring leadership experience, further strengthening the team’s resolve.

The emphasis on balance is evident in Sri Lanka‘s squad selection, with multiple all-round options. Spin-bowling all-rounders like Hasaranga, Wellalage, de Silva, and Kamindu Mendis offer versatility, while Mathews and Shanaka provide dependable pace-bowling options.

Pacer Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara inject excitement into the pace attack with their unorthodox bowling styles, complementing spearheads Dushmantha Chameera and Dilshan Madushanka.

In Group D, Sri Lanka will face tough competition from South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Nepal. Their campaign kicks off on 3 June against South Africa in New York. Alongside the core squad, Sri Lanka has named Asitha Fernando, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Janith Liyanage as travelling reserves, providing depth and flexibility to the team’s composition.
