SL vs BAN 2025: Litton goes past Mushfiqur to register most Test dismissals by Bangladeshi wicketkeeper

Litton Das etched his name in the history of Bangladesh cricket by overtaking Mushfiqur Rahim’s tally of 113 dismissals in Tests as a wicketkeeper. This historic landmark was attained by Litton on the first ball of the 76th over on Day 2 of the ongoing Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The batter who was dismissed was Dinesh Chandimal, who fell to a reverse-sweep after a solid knock of 93 off 153 deliveries. A tossed up delivery by Nayeem Hasan spun in, ballooned off the gloves, and was safely pouched by Litton who had to track back a few steps.

Speaking of the current Test, Bangladesh trail the hosts by 43 runs at the end of Day 2 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. Opting to bat first, they never really asserted themselves on the Lankans. Opening batter, Shadman Islam, emerged as the top-scorer for the hosts with 46 (93).

Apart from Litton (34 off 56), there were three other batters who were dismissed in the 30s; Mushfiqur (35 off 75), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (31 off 42), and Taijul Islam (33 off 60). Asitha Fernando (3/51 in 18 overs) and Sonal Dinusha (3/22 in 9.3 overs) picked up three wickets apiece.

Sri Lanka ended up posting 290/2 at the end of 78 overs. Pathum Nissanka (146* off 238) and Prabath Jayasuriya (5* off 13) remained unbeaten at Stumps. Taijul Islam (1/90 in 32 overs) toiled hard and bowled twice the overs as the bowler who bowled the second-most overs (Mehidy with 16 overs).

The second-wicket stand between Nissanka and Chandimal was instrumental in deflating the Bangladeshi bowling unit. It was unfortunate of Chandimal to depart seven shy of his 17th ton. It was the first time in Tests that he had gotten out in the nineties.
