Simon Helmot has officially stepped down from his head coach position at Melbourne Renegades Women. Helmot has been involved with the side in the Women’s Big Bash League since 2021 and also stewarded them to a title in 2024, working alongside captain Sophie Molineux. He had agreed upon a three-year assignment with the team after the title season but has now resigned to seek fresh opportunities outside.
Notably, Helmot is currently busy plying his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he is working under Sunrisers Hyderabad’s head coach Daniel Vettori as an assistant. While his term with the IPL franchise remains safe, Helmot has vacated his position only at the Renagades WBBL club. The general manager James Rosengarten has expressed his gratitude to Helmot for his exceptional service.
“Simon has been an extraordinary Renegades person for a long time and someone who has given so much to our club. He’s not only delivered success on the field but has had a profound impact on the people and the environment around him,” Rosengarten was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“The way he connects with players, staff and fans and the care he brings to his work has left a lasting mark on our program and the broader Victorian cricket community. He leaves with our full support as he takes on an exciting new opportunity, and we’re incredibly proud to see him continue his journey. He will always be a valued part of the Renegades family,” he added.
Helmot’s connection with the Renegades club dates back to the inaugural Big Bash League season in 2011-12, where he was with the men’s side for the first four editions of the marquee tournament. He has made his CV strong as a successful coach globally, also winning a title in the Caribbean Premier League.
