Shubman Gill’s IPL records and stats against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Shubman Gill has been one of the best batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last two seasons. The star batter has made a name for himself with his batting performances since joining GT. In the 17th edition of the league, he is leading his side, becoming one of the youngest skippers in the league. GT has had a mixed bag in the league so far. In the first match of the season, they were down and out at one stage. When none expected them to make a return, they shocked the viewers.

As Dewald Brevis and Naman Dhir were going well at one stage, GT bowlers were responsible for a great collapse that helped GT to claim a thrilling 6-run win against MI. In the second game of their season against CSK, they were never in the game. CSK posted a huge total of 206 runs on the board. The bowlers of GT were taken to the cleaners by the home side. There was no recovery whatsoever. Later on, the batters of GT could not make any impact in the game.

A great bowling performance from CSK restricted GT to a score of 143 runs. It handed GT a massive loss of 63 runs, their biggest against CSK in the league till now. On the 31st of March 2024, GT will be facing SRH at home. The focus would be on Gill, who has a good record against SRH after joining GT. The right-handed batter will be key for the success of GT. As SRH has some of the best bowlers in the world, it would be interesting to see how Gill fares against them. 

Shubman Gill’s Stats against SRH in IPL History

The 24-year-old has played 12 innings against SRH. Shubman Gill has scored 362 runs against the 2016 champions at a good batting average of 40.22, and a batting strike rate of 121.89, including a hundred and two fifty-plus scores. The right-handed batter has managed to score 18.32 percent of his team’s runs while batting against the South Indian franchise. His best score against the franchise is 101 which came back in the most recent game of GT against SRH in 2023.

Memorable performances vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

In the second match of the tournament against SRH in 2023, GT was playing at home. On a wicket that was not easy to bat on, the star opener smashed a terrific hundred, his second in the IPL career. The GT opener scored 101 runs in 58 balls which included 13 fours and a six. It was so good that he did not get enough support from the other end. Sai Sudarshan at the other end batted slowly and scored 47 runs in 36 balls. GT defeated SRH comfortably by 34 runs.

In the IPL 2020, the pitches became slower and difficult to bat on with the progression of the tournament. Gill was in KKR back then and batted well in the game against SRH. After restricting SRH to 142/4 on a slow wicket in Abu Dhabi, KKR needed someone to bat till the end. The youngster did exactly that as he allowed others to bat around him. It was a mature knock as the right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 70*(62) and took KKR home with two overs to spare.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Shubman Gill has played Bhuvneshwar a lot in the IPL at a young age. The GT skipper has faced Kumar in six seasons and managed to score 50 runs in 48 balls. Kumar has dismissed Gill in two instances to make it a favourable contest towards himself. The star batter averages just 16.7 and has a batting strike rate of 104.2 in the IPL over the experienced bowler. It might be the deciding factor of the match and Gill would be hoping to improve his record. 

Mayank Markande – Like many Indian batters. Shubman Gill has a good record against spinners. The orange cap winner of the IPL 2023 has faced Mayank Markande in one season in the IPL. In the last season, the GT opener faced the leg-spinner in one match. In 11 balls, the right-handed batter has scored 18 runs without getting dismissed. A strike rate of 163.6 batting mostly in the middle overs is indeed good and Gill would be hoping to better it. 

Shubman Gill’s Records and Milestones against SRH

The Indian opener has 130 runs against SRH in 3 games, which is the most for a batter from GT against SRH in the history of the league. His batting strike rate of 142.85 is the second-best for a batter with a minimum of 50 runs against SRH in the league. Gill averages 43.33 with the bat against SRH, which is the best for a batter from GT. He has also smashed 15 fours and a total of 17 boundaries against SRH, the most for a batter from GT in the league.

In 2023, Gill smashed 101(58) in the match against SRH, which is his best score by a batter from GT against the opponent in the history of the league. Gill has registered three hundred in the IPL and one of them came against SRH. Thereby, he became the first batter to score a hundred against SRH from GT. Shubman was also the only batter to smash three hundreds in the IPL 2023. On the 31st of March 2024, he has a good chance of improving the record.
