India’s Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill was recently spotted sitting alongside football icon Ronaldinho amid the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026, which is being co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Ronaldinho, who won the 2002 edition of the FIFA World Cup with Brazil, has been at the stadiums watching quite a few matches, especially the ones involving his country.

A picture shared by Shubman through a fan page on social media showed the right-handed batter from Punjab posing alongside the Brazilian football stalwart.

When will Shubman Gill return to action?

Shubman Gill recently featured in the three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan earlier this month. The 26-year-old led the Men in Blue to a 3-0 whitewash of Hashmatullah Shahidi’s men. During the series, Shubman amassed 238 runs in two innings, batting at an average of 238 and a strike rate of 135.23. He breached the 3000-run mark in ODIs and the 7000-run mark in international cricket during the assignment.

Shubman was awarded Player of the Series for his exemplary performance. This was his first ODI series win as captain after suffering defeats in Australia and New Zealand. Even in the one-off Test match against Afghanistan, which preceded the ODI series, Shubman scored a brilliant century and helped the hosts win by an innings and 300 runs.

Shubman will have a few weeks’ break before he gets back on the cricket field. India are currently playing a two-match T20I series against Ireland. This will be followed by a five-match T20I series against England. Shubman hasn’t been picked in either of the squads.

However, he will be back leading the side during the three-match ODI series next month. The three matches are set to be played in Birmingham, Cardiff, and London on July 14, 16, and 19, respectively. This is going to be a nice dress rehearsal for the two champion sides ahead of next year’s ODI World Cup.
