Top-order batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi is expected to play a crucial role in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. In what was overall a very subpar season for the KKR franchise, Raghuvanshi remained heavily impressive with his blitz while batting at the top, amassing 300 runs in 11 innings in 2025.
Asked about India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill‘s approach towards the game, Raghuvanshi has opined that the opening batter is indeed one of the best players in the world right now. The 21-year-old has openly expressed that there is a lot to learn from the 26-year-old, who has achieved multiple accolades for the Indian team ever since his debut in 2019.
“Shubman Gill is one of the best players in the world. I can just learn a lot from him as to how he goes about building his innings, and he gets so many big runs, and his hunger to get more and more runs, I can learn that from him,” Raghuvanshi was quoted as saying by The News Mill.
Apart from Gill, a former KKR player, Raghuvanshi also spent a good amount of time with former captain and mentor Gautam Gambhir in the 2024 season. The Kolkata-based franchise made a thumping triumph that season, and Raghuvanshi has spilt the beans on Gambhir’s advice to him as a youngster in the setup.
“He (Gambhir) didn’t say anything to me specifically. He said, ‘Just work as hard as you can, and we are going to win this season’,” Raghuvanshi revealed.
The Delhi-born, who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket, has also opened up on how Gambhir is very misunderstood as a coach and a mentor. He believes that Gambhir simply thinks about winning, and that mindset has not only given three titles to KKR but has also helped Raghuvanshi become a better player.
“No, his intensity was very good, and he was just always talking about winning the tournament, which we ended up winning. I think we became better players because of it,” he added.
After a decent outing in IPL 2025, it will be interesting to see if Raghuvanshi can solidify his position as a dependable batter for KKR.
