The Andhra Pradesh government announced a special reward for India’s World Cup-winning Shree Charani. Officials from the Andhra Cricket Association, state ministers and supporters gathered at the Vijayawada International Airport to receive Charani.

The state, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is all set to present her with an INR 2.5 crore cash prize, a 1,000-square yard house site in her hometown Kadapa and a Group-I government job. Naidu made the announcement after meeting Charani after the 21-year-old arrived from New Delhi post the Indian team’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Charani was congratulated by Naidu for the former’s outings at the recently-concluded mega event. The left-arm spinner was felicitated at a ceremony. The youngster elaborated on how it felt being part of India’s maiden 50-over World Cup triumph as well as the experience gained after playing such a high-octane tournament, as per India Today.

Speaking of Charani’s early life, she grew up in the midst of financial hardships in Kadapa, a small town in Andhra Pradesh. Her determination and talent were two factors which were vital in making her climb up the ladder via local and state teams. She made her international debut for India earlier in 2025 in both white-ball formats.

In nine matches at the Women’s World Cup, Charani secured 14 wickets at an economy rate and average of 4.96 and 27.64, respectively. Her best bowling figures of 3/41 in 10 overs, including a maiden over, which came against Australia in the league phase at her home ground in Visakhapatnam.

Before featuring for India in the multi-format series against Australia next year, she will be anticipated to feature in the fourth instalment of the Women’s Premier League. Charani was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction.
