Shivam Dube might not have as much bowling ability as Hardik but he gives you an option: Aakash Chopra

As India gear up to face Ireland in the second T20I, former Indian opener and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra shared his insights on the upcoming clash, highlighting some important aspects.

One of the focal points of Chopra’s analysis is the potential use of Shivam Dube as a bowler. Despite Dube’s limited bowling ability compared to Hardik Pandya, Chopra suggested giving him a few overs in the game.

In his recent YouTube video, Chopra emphasised, “I want to see how much Shivam Dube is used. He was given one over in the last match. Will they try to bowl him more overs in this match? While Hardik Pandya is your designated finisher and fast-bowling all-rounder, and Shivam Dube might not have as much bowling ability, he gives you an option. So you should definitely exercise that option.”

Turning his attention to India’s batting, Chopra suggested Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad to cautiously take on the new ball. He also opened up on the challenge posed by the initial swing and encouraged the duo to capitalise on favourable conditions later on.

Chopra explained, “Jaiswal and Gaikwad should aim to establish a strong foundation against the new ball and then unleash their potential as conditions ease up.”

Chopra also shared insights on Ireland’s batting approach, urging their top order to display better application. He believed that players like Lorcan Tucker, Harry Tector, Paul Stirling, and Andy Balbirnie need to adapt and play with more sense.

While acknowledging Ireland’s batting depth, Chopra highlighted a key concern – exposing the lower order early in the innings. He emphasised the need for better shot selection and cautioned against risky shots, especially during the initial overs.

“Take the game a little deep. Then they have the batting. George Dockrell, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy, and Mark Adair – all of them bat well, but Mark Adair should not be batting in the first ten overs.,” Chopra remarked.

The first T20I encounter showcased Ireland’s resilience as they recovered from a shaky start to post a competitive total. However, rain ultimately played spoilsport, and India secured victory via the DLS method. As the stage is set for the second T20I, fans eagerly await to see how Indian youngsters perform and showcase their abilities.
