Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing SA20 season after suffering a right thumb ligament tear that will require surgery, dealing a significant setback to the franchise’s campaign.

The injury comes at a crucial stage of the league, with teams entering the decisive phase of the group stage. JSK has played seven matches till now and have won three out of their seven games.

Du Plessis has been a key figure for Joburg Super Kings, contributing both as a leader and a senior batter at the top of the order. While he may not have produced a standout kmock this season, the 41-year-old has shown encouraging form, providing brisk starts with a strike rate over 150. He has scored 135 runs in five innings at an average of 27.

The oburg Super Kings are currently positioned in third place in the table with 17 points. The team remains in the hunt for a playoff berth, but the margin for error is slim as they prepare for high-stakes matches against other playoff contenders.

Super Kings have three matches left – against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Pretoria Capitals, and Paarl Royals. The franchise has not yet announced a replacement player and has not clarified who will take over the captaincy for the remainder of the season.

For Joburg Super Kings, the focus now shifts to regrouping quickly and maintaining momentum despite losing one of their most influential figures. How effectively they respond to this setback could define their SA20 campaign.
