The SA20, South Africa’s franchise Twenty20 cricket league, is set to kick off its second edition on January 10 and wrap up on February 10. The 2024 SA20 will feature six teams – Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, all owned by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.

The upcoming edition of the SA20 will be held across six venues, Newlands (Cape Town), Centurion Park (Pretoria), Kingsmead (Durban), St George’s Park (Gqeberha), Wanderers (Johannesburg), and Boland Park (Paarl). The tournament will get underway with a clash between defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

The competition comprises a total of 34 matches, with the group stage adopting a double round-robin format. Each team will play ten matches, five at home and five away, from January 10 to February 4. The top four teams will progress to the playoffs scheduled for February 6-10.

In the playoffs, the first and second-placed teams will face off in Qualifier 1, with the winner securing a direct spot in the final. The losing side will enter Qualifier 2, where they’ll compete against the winner of the Eliminator (third versus fourth) to qualify for the summit clash. This format is a change from the 2023 edition, which featured two semi-finals.
