‘Rubbish shot’ – Justin Langer reveals Virat Kohli’s message to Steve Smith after his poor dismissal in WTC final

‘Rubbish shot’ - Justin Langer reveals Virat Kohli’s message to Steve Smith after his poor dismissal in WTC final

Former India skipper Virat Kohli was heard sledging Steve Smith after the completion of Day 3 in the ongoing World Test Championship final. Notably, the Australian great got out for 34 runs in the second innings while playing an outrageous shot – something he barely does in Test cricket. Talking about the same, Kohli passed a comment to Smith, calling it a ‘rubbish shot’ to which the latter even agreed.

Revealing the discussion, Justin Langer stated that any other cricketer other than Smith would have disregarded the comment but the cricketer was courteous enough to accept it and agreed on the same.

“Virat Kohli walked up to Steve Smith and said ‘rubbish shot yesterday’. Steve Smith just looked at him. If anyone else would have said it he would have gone ‘whatever’. But he said, “that’s right, it was a rubbish shot’. If 99.9 per cent of the population said that to Steve Smith he would go ‘whatever’. But coming from Virat, one genius to another, he goes ‘OK, fair enough’,” Langer revealed during commentary as ICC shared the video of the same on Instagram.

India needs 280 runs to win the historic Test

Never in the history of Test cricket, has a team been able to chase 444 runs in the fourth innings. Thus, India have a daunting task on their hands as they now need 280 runs on the fifth day to win the second edition of the World Test Championship. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led side started well but a controversial decision to dismiss Shubman Gill grabbed the headlines. Nevertheless, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara built a strong partnership in the middle but unfortunately, both cricketers had to walk back to the pavilion in the third session of the penultimate day.

Currently, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are batting in the middle and their partnership of 71 runs so far has given India some hope to do the unthinkable. They however need a solid start to get the job done on Day 5 while Australia need seven more wickets to bag another ICC trophy.
