Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, one of the all-time great white-ball openers, was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The star player, who has won two ICC titles with his country, the T20 World Cup 2007 and Champions Trophy 2013, has been enjoying a decorated and glorious career in which he holds several world records in both T20 and ODI formats.

The right-handed batter made his international debut for India by featuring in an ODI against Ireland in Belfast in 2007. Rohit’s debut in the shortest international format came against England in the T20 WC 2007 in Durban, where he did not get a chance to bat. However, he immediately showed glimpses of his talent when India faced South Africa at the very same venue.

He scored an unbeaten 50 off 40 with seven fours and two maximums as India won the contest by 37 runs, with Rohit also grabbing the Player of the Match award. He announced himself in the 50-overs format by playing a solid knock of 66 off 87 against Australia in the first of the best of three-finals in a tri-series in 2008. Batting alongside the legend Sachin Tendulkar, a young Rohit showcased his talent at the iconic Syndey Cricket Ground, where India also won the encounter by six wickets.

His maiden century in ODIs came against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2010 when he amassed 114 off 119. Despite featuring for India regularly, Rohit failed to make it to the final 15 for the World Cup 2011. His time finally came in the 2013 Champions Trophy as he stamped his authority by delivering consistent performances while opening the innings with Shikhar Dhawan. He scored 177 runs in five innings with two half-centuries in that tournament, which India won.

Rohit has several mind-boggling records in the format, which almost seem to be unbreakable. The 36-year-old has smashed three double centuries in one-day internationals and also holds the record for slamming the third-most maximums (292). The opener has struck third-most centuries (30) for team India after Sachin Tendulkar (49) and Virat Kohli (47). Rohit’s one of the most notable achievements came in the World Cup in 2019 when he hammered five hundred in that competition. He ended the campaign as the highest run-getter with 648 runs at a staggering average of 81.00.
