Reports: PCB imposes 5 million rupees fine on Pakistan players who flopped in T20 World Cup 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board has taken a harsh step after the Pakistan cricket team faced a Super Eights exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. In a surprising move, the board has reportedly imposed a heavy penalty of PKR 5 million (approximately 1.7 million or 17 lakh in Indian Rupees) individually on all the players who flopped in the twenty-team tournament. The list includes star batter Babar Azam, premium fast bowler Shaheen Afridi and all-rounder Shadab Khan as well.

Notably, Pakistan were placed in Group A of the tournament, which also included arch-rivals India apart from the Netherlands, Namibia and the United States of America. While Pakistan managed to beat all the associate nations and gained an easy entry into the Super Eights, their performance was nowhere close to the group-stage campaign, which saw them being thrown out of the competition.

According to sources cited by the Express Tribune, the PCB has taken the decision to fine the poor performers after finding it evident that the players have been dealt with enough courtesy, which must not continue any further. Additionally, the board has made it clear that financial rewards to all the Pakistani players will follow only after justifying one’s performances in the set-up going forward
