Reports: No surgery required for Prithvi Shaw’s injury as per recent scans

Star Indian batter Prithvi Shaw has had a season full of ups and downs. Riddled with injuries, Shaw has been unable to find his form for a big part of the season and has come under major scrutiny from fans and pundits alike. The 23-year-old did show glimpses of class during his County Championship stint, but that too was cut short with an injury.

His stint with Northamptonshire came to an end after he sustained an injury, and the scans revealed that he had Grade 2 Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) damage. With his injury, Shaw is expected to miss out on the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Shaw, currently in the UK, is receiving treatment for the injury. Several reports suggest that the 23-year-old could return to the field sooner than anticipated. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is keeping a close eye on Shaw, and they anticipate him to be back at the NCA (National Cricket Academy), but it is apparent that the 23-year-old will stay in the UK for the time being.

A source in the know recently opined that the injury looked bad for Shaw in the early stages. However, with the reveal of recent reports, it was made clear that surgery would not be needed.

“The result of the scans has revealed that it’s a Grade 2 PCL injury. Grade 2 is not that encouraging but still better than Grade 3. Things were initially not looking good for Prithvi but Grade 2 injury and no need of surgery means he should be back on the field soon. Initially, we thought he could return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) or home in Mumbai but he will be there in the UK for some time at least,” the source was quoted as saying by OneCricket.
