Only a few days after buying his ‘dream’ car, India speedster Akash Deep has landed himself in hot water regarding the purchase, according to a report. Last week, the 28-year-old revealed on social media that he had bought a Toyota Fortuner upon returning to India after completing the gruelling five-match Test series between India and England.

However, a recent report has popped up claiming that the Bengal seamer has been issued a notice by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department for using a vehicle without a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP).

While standard number plates of cars are more prone to damage, High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) were introduced by the Government of India so that it could weather more wear and tear.

HSRPs are special number plates that come with several security features like laser codes, non-removable screws, and a hologram, which makes them impossible to be stolen or faked.

According to a report by India Today, Deep’s black Toyota Fortuner did not have an HSRP, leading to the Dehri-born being handed a notice.

M/s Sunny Motors, the dealer from which Akash Deep purchased the vehicle, has also been punished for reportedly delivering the vehicle without finishing the registration process and fitting an HSRP on the car.

The dealer company, which has been handed a one-month suspension, has 14 days to submit an explanation.

‘Dream delivered. Keys received. With the ones who matter most,” Deep had written on Instagram, sharing pictures of the car alongside members of his family.

How did Akash Deep fare in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy?

Deep battled with injuries during the five-match Test series against England. However, he did put in some memorable performances, which helped India at various stages of the series. In the second Test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Deep bagged 10 wickets, including a six-for in the second innings.

He also showed his utility with the bat, scoring a crucial 66 in India’s second innings of the fifth and final Test match at The Oval. The Men in Blue eventually won the pulsating match by six runs to draw the series at 2-2.
