Records Ravindra Jadeja can break in Sri Lanka Test series

Despite being the only one amongst his peers part of the Indian Test set-up, Ravindra Jadeja stands tall as a stalwart of the modern era of Indian cricket. Despite the team going through a phase of transition, he still leads the spin attack and would be expected to play a key role in the series in Sri Lanka.

The two-match Test series, set to commence on August 15 in Galle, could see Jadeja play a vital role in the match. Conditions in Sri Lanka are expected to favour the spin bowlers, with Jadeja’s pinpoint accuracy and impeccable skill set to be at the forefront as the side’s lead spinner. He will also be expected to contribute with the bat, after having accumulated runs aplenty as almost a front-line batter. As one of world cricket’s premier spin-bowling all-rounders in the red-ball game, Jadeja has been at the forefront of historic results and has broken records aplenty with bat and ball for the Indian team.

Records that can be broken by Ravindra Jadeja in the Test series vs Sri Lanka

1. 350 Test wickets

Jadeja has picked up 348 wickets in 89 Test matches, with two more scalps set to make him the fifth Indian bowler to pick up 350 wickets in Test cricket. Ahead of him in the all-time wickets tally for India are Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev and Jadeja’s long-term teammate and partner-in-crime R Ashwin. His 89 matches are already the most Test appearances made by a left-arm spinner, well ahead of Bishan Singh Bedi’s 67.

2. Fourth cricketer to score 4,000 runs and pick up 350 wickets in Tests

On reaching the 350-wicket mark, Jadeja would become just the fourth cricketer to score 4,000 Test runs and take 350 Test wickets. Jadeja has scored 4,095 runs in Test cricket, reaching the 4,000-run mark in the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata in late 2025. With that feat, he will be joining Kapil Dev, England’s Ian Botham and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori on the esteemed list.

Jadeja’s record in Sri Lanka

The series in 2026 will be the 37-year-old all-rounder’s second appearance in Sri Lanka. He was part of the India side that toured the country for a three-match series in 2017, which was then-coach Ravi Shastri’s first assignment with the team. Jadeja played two of the three matches of that series, scoring 85 runs and picking up 13 wickets at an average of 28.76.

The first match in Galle saw Jadeja score just 15 runs in the first innings but finish with match figures of 6 for 138, taking three wickets apiece in each innings as India sealed a whopping 304-run win. Jadeja was awarded Player of the Match in the second Test, putting up a stunning all-round performance in an innings victory. He scored an unbeaten 70 off 85 balls before picking up seven wickets in the match, including figures of 5 for 152 in the second innings, his best figures of the series. He did not feature in the third and final Test, with India sealing a 3-0 whitewash.
