A stunning half-century from Devon Conway followed by impressive striking from Shivam Dube saw Chennai Super Kings edge past Royal Challengers Banglore by the margin of eight runs in the 24th match of the Indian Premier League 2023.

Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mohammed Siraj drew first blood for RCB as Ruturaj Gaikwad departed for three runs off six balls.

Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane kept the scoreboard ticking by adding valuable 74 runs for the second wicket. Wanindu Hasaranga broke the second-wicket stand by sending back Ajinkya Rahane for 37 off 20. 

However, Devon Conway kept the scoreboard moving. Conway along with Dube added a quick 80 for the third wicket. Conway smashed his second fifty in the IPL 2023 before getting dismissed for 83 off 45.

Shivam Dube registered his first fifty of the IPL 2023 but soon got dismissed by Wayne Parnell after reaching the milestone. Cameo from Moeen Ali, in the end, helped CSK post a massive total of 226/6 in 20 overs.

In response to 226, Akash Singh drew first blood for CSK in the very first over as Virat Kohli departed for six runs off four balls. Soon Tushar Deshpande sent Mahipal Lomror packing in the second over. Skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell kept the scoreboard ticking by adding a quickfire century partnership for the third wicket.  

Glenn Maxwell galloped to his second fifty in the ongoing season. His knock included three fours and eight maximums and came at a fierce strike rate of 211.11. Maheesh Theekshana broke the third wicket stand by dismissing Glenn Maxwell for 76 off 36.

The RCB skipper and Shahbaz Ahmed kept going. Du Plessis also scored his third fifty of this edition before getting dismissed for 62 off 33. Lower order batters led the fight back with few cameos but couldn’t take RCB over the line as CSK clinched the contest by eight runs.

Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from Match No. 24 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2023 :

226 – Chennai recorded the total of 226 in today’s game. This is the highest total by a visiting team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Previously LSG recorded 213 in their game against RCB this year. 

62 – Vijayakumar Vyshak conceded 62 runs in his spell, this is the second most runs conceded by an RCB bowler in IPL. Josh Hazlewood tops the list with 64 runs.

226 – CSK registered the highest total against RCB in the IPL. The previous highest total was 216 in Navi Mumbai in 2022 

75/2 – RCB registered their second-highest powerplay score in the IPL. Their highest powerplay score is 79/1 against Kochi Tuskers Kerala and came in 2011.

218 – RCB registered their highest total against CSK in the IPL. The previous highest total was 205 and it came in Chennai in 2012.

1 – MS Dhoni (838) became the joint-leading run-scorer against RCB in the IPL along with David Warner.

193 – Shivam Dube has aggregated 193 runs against RCB at an average of 96.50 in the IPL.
