Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin looked flawless in the recently concluded five-match series against England as he picked 26 wickets and finished as the leading wicket-taker. On his centenary Test in Dharamshala, Ashwin picked up nine wickets and demolished England’s batting unit alongside Kuldeep Yadav, as India won the series 4-1. After the match, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lauded Ashwin and asked him to reveal the reason behind his success in international cricket.

Speaking on the same, the off-spinner gave credit to the video analysts and stated that they provided him with various footage, which helped him bowl better against England. He mentioned that the batters in the modern era are always prepared as they play a lot of cricket against the same bowlers in international and franchise cricket. To come out on top against them, Ashwin revealed that he experiments a lot, which has worked for him in the series against the Ben Stokes-led side.

“Sunny bhai, I feel times I have rolled along and, in a way, the number of footage that you get from video analysts, and how frequently you play among the top Test nations. The batters are constantly prepared, they can line you up beautifully if you are the same person. Of course, there will be phases where you can keep it about their styles,” Ashwin told.

“You can find good length in certain spells but that’s just not good enough to dismiss some good batters. I’m not saying just sticking with one method won’t work, thankfully, I am one of those who has experimented and learned what’s worked for me. Nevertheless, with all the analysis and footage going around, it’s better that you stay on top of it,” he added.

Meanwhile, after the series, Ashwin posted images of his centenary Test and expressed his delight over the series win. “All is well that ends well. A great series with so many ebbs and flows,” Ashwin wrote.
