Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Shardul Thakur, Yashasvi Jaiswal back in Mumbai squad for Quarter-Finals

Mumbai have received a major boost ahead of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 quarter-finals, with all-rounder Shardul Thakur and star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal returning to the squad. The 42-time champions have named both players in their 16-member squad for the quarter-final against Karnataka, scheduled to begin on February 6. 

Both Thakur and Jaiswal had missed Mumbai’s previous Ranji outings. Thakur was sidelined with a calf injury sustained during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while Jaiswal’s absence raised questions, with even the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) initially unclear about the reasons. The situation drew attention, given that Jaiswal had no international commitments during that period.

However, according to reports, Jaiswal underwent an endoscopy and is still recovering after being hospitalised due to severe food poisoning during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Pune. While not yet at peak fitness, the young opener is considered ready to return for the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Thakur’s return is equally significant, who has been named captain for the quarter-final fixture. Alongside Thakur and Jaiswal, the team includes Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, and Tushar Deshpande, players who have played key roles in Mumbai’s domestic success in recent years. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Aakash Anand and Hardik Tamore, while youngsters like Musheer Khan and Suryansh Shedge have also been picked in the lineup.

Mumbai have also been forced into a couple of changes due to injuries. Aakash Parkar misses out after picking up an injury, while spinner Shams Mulani returns after recovering from health issues. Suryansh Shedge has been recalled on the back of consistent performances for the Mumbai Under-23 team.
