R Sridhar to conduct 10-day fielding programme for Sri Lanka men’s, women’s players

Sri Lanka Cricket has roped in the services of fielding expert R Sridhar on an immediate basis. He is reported to be having to work with the senior men’s and women’s teams across all levels. His 10-day stint with the Sri Lankan outfits will begin without any further delay.

SLC has issued an official statement on the same. The former Indian fielding coach is expected to help the sides uplift their fielding standards.

“Sridhar will conduct a comprehensive 10-day fielding program to elevate the fielding standards of Sri Lankan cricketers. The specialized programme will commence on May 7 and will involve men’s and women’s national squads, Emerging squads, Premier Club players, and the National U-19 team, and Women’s ‘A’ team as well,” the press release by SLC read, as per Cricbuzz.

For the unversed, the 54-year-old Sridhar was linked with the Indian setup across over 300 international games between 2014 and 2021. The former Indian domestic cricketer is a Level 3 accredited coach with the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He has also worked with a few Indian Premier League franchises in the past.

As per the same statement by SLC, Sridhar will start off his programme with the men’s side before moving onto the aforementioned squads. He will conducting basic fielding drills, skill-specific training, and simulated match scenarios.

The former left-arm spinner has previously represented Hyderabad in 35 First-Class games and 15 List A matches. Post his playing career, he has worked alongside esteemed coaches in the form of Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble. Sridhar, who was previously associated with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, will have an opportunity to work with former Sri Lankan great, Sanath Jayasuriya.

Sri Lanka will be scheduled to play a series of white-ball games in the buildup to the T20 World Cup next year. They are also scheduled to play a two-game Test series against Bangladesh in June. As for Sri Lanka Women, they are currently involved in a tri-series at home. Their next big assessment will be at the Women’s ODI World Cup later this year.
