The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that the PSL 2027 player auction will take place on January 23, 2027, ahead of the 12th season of the Pakistan Super League. The announcement was made on October 23, 2026, the same day the PCB opened the direct signing window for all eight franchises.
While the auction date is now set, the venue has not been finalised. One of the PSL franchise owners has reportedly proposed that the auction be held in neighbouring China, which would mark the first time in the league’s history that the event takes place outside Pakistan.
As reported by Cricket News, the PCB is yet to make a formal announcement on the venue. If the China proposal is accepted, the PSL would be following a path already taken by the Indian Premier League, whose auction or mini-auction has been held outside India on three occasions: twice in the UAE and once in Saudi Arabia.
What are the new direct signing rules for PSL 2027?
The direct signing window that opened on October 23, 2026 will remain open for one month, closing on November 23, 2026. Under the new PSL rules, each of the eight franchises is permitted to sign one marquee player directly during this window, provided that the player did not feature in either PSL 10 or PSL 11.
The PCB is also scheduled to hold a franchise workshop in the coming week. That session will cover retention deadlines, the pre-auction trading window, auction rules and playing conditions for the upcoming season.
Alongside these administrative steps, the PCB has aligned the National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments as talent-identification competitions ahead of the PSL 12 auction, giving selectors and franchise scouts a structured platform to assess domestic players before bidding begins.
When and where will PSL 2027 matches be played?
The 2027 edition of the Pakistan Super League is scheduled to run from March 18 to May 2, 2027, spanning 46 days. The tournament will feature a total of 44 matches, comprising 40 league stage games and 4 playoff fixtures.
Matches will be played across five to six venues in Pakistan. The final is confirmed for May 2, 2027, at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The auction on January 23 will therefore precede the tournament by roughly eight weeks, giving franchises adequate time to complete their squads after the direct signing window closes in November.
