PSL 2023: 8 Security cameras stolen from Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium

In a new update from the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2023 (PSL), eight security cameras have been stolen from inside the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Not only security cameras, even some generator batteries and fiber cables, all necessary for live recording of CCTV footages and monitoring of PSL matches, have also been reportedly stolen from the stadium. All the stolen goods are reported to be worth millions of rupees. CCTV footages from outside the stadium have recorded the thieves making an escape with the loot.

In the aftermath, two separate cases have been registered against the alleged perpetrators at the Gulberg Police Station, where it is currently under investigation. No arrests have been made yet and a official statement from the investigating officers is still awaited. The security issues aren’t uncommon to the ongoing Pakistan Super League.

PCB and interim Punjab Government at loggerheads over PSL expenses

For the unversed, it is important to mention that things are not very smooth between the Punjab Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Both the governing bodies are at loggerheads over bearing the security expenses of the PSL.

Due to this raging dispute, the fate of conducting matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi still remains hung. Furthermore, the PSL has been under news more for its controversies rather than the outcourse of the league. While the Punjab government has reduced its demands for security funds from Rs 450 million to Rs 250 million, the PCB has decided to stay with its decision of not paying that amount to the caretaker government.

Former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has lauded PCB’s stand on this issue. He has stated that the PCB should not take up the job of others. It is the responsibility of the Punjab government to organise funds and look into the security of the stadia. He further added that the cricket board would further go bankrupt if they had to start paying for the security expenses.
