Prithvi Shaw files affidavit in Mumbai court, calls influencer Sapna Gill’s plea false

Prithvi Shaw, who was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 75 lakh at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, has found himself in the spotlight for reasons beyond cricket. The opener recently submitted an affidavit before a Mumbai court, strongly contesting a plea filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill, calling it false, frivolous, and vexatious.

Shaw’s affidavit was filed in response to Gill’s plea stemming from a 2023 altercation between the two at a Mumbai pub. According to Shaw, the plea was filed with the sole intention of maligning and harassing him by exploiting his public image and celebrity status. He alleged that Gill was attempting to gain undue attention and settle a personal vendetta.

The incident dates back to a dispute over demands for selfies, which escalated into a brawl. An FIR was subsequently registered, leading to Gill’s arrest. However, through her legal counsel, advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, Gill claimed that the police failed to register her cross-complaint against Shaw, which included allegations of molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman.

Gill later approached the Andheri magistrate’s court, seeking directions to the police to register an FIR based on her allegations. In response, the police informed the court that no offence had been committed by Shaw or others present at the scene. Despite this, the magistrate ordered a fresh enquiry under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to reassess the matter.

Dissatisfied with the order, Gill filed a revision petition before the Dindoshi Sessions Court in April 2024. After reportedly failing to respond on multiple occasions, Shaw submitted his reply on Tuesday, December 16. In his affidavit, he accused Gill of playing the womanhood card as a counterblast to the FIR lodged against her and alleged that her actions were motivated by personal animosity.

Shaw further claimed that Gill’s plea suppressed material facts, misrepresented events, and relied on inadmissible, irrelevant, and fabricated evidence. He also accused her of seeking publicity and attempting to extort money by making false allegations.

Responding to Shaw’s affidavit, Deshmukh stated that the cricketer’s reply failed to provide any substantive evidence or alibi to support his claims. The matter has now been adjourned to March 31, when legal representatives from both sides are scheduled to present their arguments before the court.
