Playing with MS Dhoni will always remain in my special memories: KL Rahul

KL Rahul reminisced about his playing days alongside MS Dhoni in the Indian team and said that receiving his maiden caps for all formats from the legendary cricketer will always remain special.

KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, April 19 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the high-octane clash, the Karnataka cricketer hailed Dhoni as a special person, not just for him but for the entire nation. Rahul made his debut for the national team in 2014 under Dhoni’s stewardship. The iconic cricketer relinquished captaincy in 2017 before eventually retiring from international cricket in 2020.

“MS Dhoni is obviously a special person for the entire country. The special moment with him was when I received caps for Test, ODI and T20I from Dhoni and to receive from his hands will be at the top in the special moments. Playing with him will always remain in my special memories.” Rahul said while speaking to Star Sports.

Under Dhoni’s astute leadership, India won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni also led CSK to five IPL titles, the last of them coming in 2023. The 42-year-old handed over CSK’s captaincy responsibilities to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024 and the youngster is doing a decent job so far.

Chennai have won four out of the six matches in IPL 2024. and are currently at the No. 3 on the points table. A win against Lucknow would help them displace Kolkata Knight Riders from the second spot. Meanwhile, the Super Giants have three wins and as many losses from six games and are positioned at No. 5 on the table.
