Pakistan batter fined for ICC Code of Conduct breach

Pakistan batter fined for ICC Code of Conduct breach

Star batter Fakhar Zaman found himself in a spot of bother after he was found guilty for showing dissent at the on-field umpire’s decision during the Tri-Series Final against Sri Lanka on Saturday, November 29 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed.

Zaman was convicted in breaching the Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, as he expressed his disbelief over the umpire’s decision during an international fixture. He has been fined heavily for the gesture, as the ICC has penalized him a 10 per cent amount of his match fee for the same.

On top of that, a demerit point has also been added to the disciplinary record for Zaman, with this being his maiden offence in the last twenty-four months. The cricketer has admitted to the offence and accepted the charge. As a result of the same, no official hearings were required under this matter.

Since this was a Level 1 Offence under the ICC rulings, Zaman had to undergo an official reprimand, a penalty, and a demerit point for his on-field antics. ICC International Panel of Match Referees, Reon King, sanctioned the charge, while the on-field umpires — Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Rashid Riaz and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi levelled the charge.

Pakistan clinch tri-series

Speaking more about the match, the summit clash of the tri-nation series was clinched by the Men in Green, after an emphatic win by six wickets against Sri Lanka. After batting first, the Lankan Lions could post a paltry score of 118, failing to complete their full 20-overs’ quota. Shaheen Afridi shone with the ball with his three-wicket haul, giving away just 18 runs from his three overs.

The chase was a rather comfortable one for the hosts, as they had scored 71 for 1 at the halfway stage, with only 48 more required in 10 overs. Babar Azam led the charge with his unbeaten 37 off 34 balls, as the win became a mere formality. Zaman made only three off five during the run chase, and was the fourth and the last wicket to fall for Pakistan. The chase was finished on the fourth ball of the 19th over.
