‘Once I am done, you won’t see me for a while’ – Virat Kohli reveals plans after retirement

Virat Kohli revealed his plans after retirement, saying that he might take a break from the sport before pondering his future steps. The legendary cricketer made his international debut in 2008 and has established himself as one of the most revered and influential sportspersons of this generation.

The former India captain is currently having a phenomenal season with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He is the leading run-getter, having amassed 661 runs from 13 matches at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16. Kohli is currently 35 years old but is one of the fittest players going around in world cricket. However, his die-hard fans are always concerned about the day when the Delhi batter will step aside. The iconic cricketer recently revealed what keeps him going at this stage of his illustrious career and his plans after retirement.

“It’s quite simple. I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So, I am just working backwards. I don’t want to finish my career thinking ‘oh, what if I have done this on that particular day’ because I can’t keep going on and on forever. So, it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won’t,” Kohli said at the RCB’s Royal Gala Dinner in Bengaluru ahead of their crucial IPL match against CSK.

“Once I am done, I will be gone, you won’t see me for a while (smiles). So, I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,” he added.

Kohli is looking to take RCB to the IPL playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons. After the culmination of the cash-rich league, the veteran batter will be representing India in the T20 World Cup 2024 next month. He will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form in the marquee event scheduled to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
