Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood has said that he is confident of his team causing ‘an upset’ at the 2025 Asia Cup. He expressed hope that Oman will work the likes of India and Pakistan during the league phase. Oman are placed in Group A along with India, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates.
Mehmood stated that Oman will be coming into every fixture without the fear of failure. He also said that Oman can make a decisive impact on the tournament through their performances and would look to make the most of the opporutnity.
“In terms of preparation, when you play such games, you have to be fearless because there’s nothing to lose. To showcase your talent, you must remove the fear factor. Hopefully, we can challenge both sides and ensure it won’t be an easy cakewalk for them. If we continue playing good cricket, as we are right now, I’m confident we can even cause an upset. It may sound like a bold statement, but I genuinely believe that with our current form, we can make a strong impact in this tournament. We are staying positive about it,” Mehmood was quoted as saying by India Today.
The 33-year-old opened up on the value tournaments like the Asia Cup holds for cricketers coming from associate nations like Oman.
“Personally, this tournament holds immense value for us in our careers. Ever since we started playing cricket, we dreamed of competing against the giants of world cricket. Every moment of this tournament will be historic for us, especially these two matches,” he added.
Oman will be coming into the tournament with loads of cricket under their belt. Earlier this year, they had hosted USA for a three-match T20I series. They have also been playing the 2024-27 Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2.
