After crushing New Zealand in the first Test by a massive margin of 267 runs, England will look to further stamp their authority on the Kiwis and whitewash them in their den. It was their first Test win in the country after almost 15 years as New Zealand failed to counter the attacking approach of Ben Stokes and Co.

It will be the perfect opportunity for the Three Lions to script history as they last won a series in New Zealand way back in 2008 under the leadership of Michael Vaughan.

With the Brendon McCullum at the helm, England have taken down their oppositions one after another and will look to add another feather in their cap by winning a series in New Zealand after 14 years.

On the other hand, New Zealand have everything to play for. The winners of the first World Test Championship haven’t had a memorable campaign in the second cycle as they are ranked 8th in the WTC table with 27.27 points percentage.

The Kiwis last lost a Test series at home in 2017 against South Africa and were last whitewashed at home against Australia in 2016. Tim Southee’s men will take the field in the second Test to save their pride and level the series at the venue they have dominated in the past few years.

Pitch and Conditions

In the 66 Tests played at the venue, teams batting first have won 13 matches while teams batting second have won 28. New Zealand have dominated the last five Tests played at the Basin Reserve, winning four of them.

Teams batting first struggle a bit early on with the conditions easing out from Day 2.
