The T20 World Cup has been one of cricket’s most prestigious tournaments ever since its inception in 2007. What began as an exciting experiment in the shortest format has become special. Over the years, teams have dominated in phases, while a few have managed to carry exceptional form across two or even three editions, stitching together streaks of consecutive wins.
In a tournament such as the T20 World Cup, a single loss can change the course of a campaign. The format leaves little room for error, which makes sustaining a winning run even more significant. Ultimately, long winning runs in T20 World Cup history have led the teams to titles.
Here are the most consecutive wins by teams in T20 World Cup history
3. Australia: 8 wins

Australia held the most consecutive wins in the T20 World Cup, stitching together eight successive victories across the 2022 and 2024 editions. After an opening defeat to New Zealand in 2022, the Aussies bounced back strongly, beating Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Afghanistan, even though they narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot.
They carried that form into the 2024 tournament in the West Indies, defeating Oman, England, Namibia, Scotland, and Bangladesh. The run finally ended in the Super Eights with losses to Afghanistan and India. However, the 2026 edition had a contrasting result as Australia struggled in the group stage, losing to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, and were knocked out after a washout between Ireland and Zimbabwe. This was only the second time they exited in the group stage after 2009.
2. South Africa: 8 wins

South Africa enjoyed a dream run in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, winning eight matches on the trot, the joint-longest streak in tournament history. It was also their longest winning run in men’s T20Is. The Proteas finally broke their knockout jinx, reaching their first-ever men’s ODI or T20 World Cup final after crushing Afghanistan in the semi-final.
However, the fairytale campaign ended in heartbreak as they lost the final to India. In the 2026 edition, South Africa has picked up right where it left off. They topped Group D with four wins in four matches, including a thrilling double Super Over win against Afghanistan.
1. India: 11 wins*

India holds the pole position for the most consecutive wins in men’s T20 World Cup history, stretching their impressive run from the unbeaten 2024 campaign into the first three victories of the 2026 edition. Under Rohit Sharma, India lifted the 2024 title without losing a game, and that momentum has carried forward under Suryakumar Yadav.
India began their 2026 campaign with a 29-run win over the United States of America, followed by a clinical 93-run triumph against Namibia. In the clash against Pakistan, the Men in Blue sealed a dominant 61-run victory. These results not only extended their winning streak to 11 matches in the T20 World Cups but also confirmed their progression to the Super 8 stage.
