Moin Khan slams PCB selectors and Pakistan team after consistent poor results

Moin Khan, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter with 69 Tests and 219 ODIs to his name, has expressed serious concern about the direction of Pakistan cricket following a series of disappointing results. Khan’s criticism centres on the instability created by frequent changes in the cricket system and the shifting priorities of modern players.

Khan pointed to the struggles Pakistan has faced across all formats, particularly in Test cricket, as evidence of deeper structural problems within the team and its management. He highlighted the impact of constant changes in leadership and selection decisions on the team’s ability to perform consistently.

“We have been struggling in all formats but notably in test matches and if this trend continues I am afraid people will lose interest in Pakistan cricket,” Khan was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Instability in leadership and selection decisions

Khan expressed his frustration with the lack of continuity in Pakistan’s cricket administration and the absence of faith in long-term planning. The former wicketkeeper believes that without stable leadership and consistent selection philosophy, the team cannot achieve sustained success.

“Whenever a chairman and management team is changed you see things change in our cricket system which are not necessarily productive. So where is the stability?,” he further said.

Player priorities and financial incentives

Khan warned that Pakistan risks falling behind other cricket nations if the current trend of instability continues unchecked. He suggested that the consequences of poor management could extend beyond domestic performance to international standing.

“We might find ourselves relegated to the bottom half of the cricket world finding it difficult to get bilateral series with top teams,” Khan said.

Khan believes that modern players have shifted their focus away from developing their craft and building cricket temperament in favour of financial rewards from league cricket. He contrasted the earning potential of his era with the current generation’s opportunities.

“When I played we earned in lakhs. Nowadays players earn in crores but players must also remember nothing is greater than playing for your country with success,” Khan added.

Technical preparation and dedication

Khan attributed part of the problem to the PCB’s role in diminishing the value of representing Pakistan at the international level. He stressed that the board and selectors have contributed to this devaluation through their decision-making.

“I guess priorities have changed for players now. The PCB and selectors have not helped by devaluing the Pakistan cap,” he further added.

Khan pointed to the lack of dedication among bowlers as a specific technical concern, drawing on his experience playing alongside some of Pakistan’s greatest pace bowlers. He emphasised that excellence in bowling requires sustained effort and preparation.
