In this post, we will discuss, MI vs SRH clash in match 55 of the IPL 2024 in IPL records and stats at Wankhede Stadium, history of cricket’s iconic venue. Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hoping that there will be some respite in their dreadful situation when they host Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 55 of the IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League), at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI are currently last on the points table, while SRH are placed fourth.

SRH were involved in a thriller for the ages against RR in their last match. Fifties from Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy followed by a final impulse from Heinrich Klaasen pushed SRH to 200. RR then lost two wickets in the first over, before fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag then put them back on the track, before some amazing death bowling by Pat Cummins and T Natarajan gave SRH a foot in the door. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who had taken two wickets in the first over itself, successfully defended 13 off the last over as SRH won by just one run.

MI started their latest game, at home against KKR amazingly having reduced them to 57/5. Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey then set on to recover, until a death overs burst only restricted MI to 167. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc then shared in the bowling spoils as no batter other than Suryakumar Yadav did anything of note for MI slumping them to their fourth consecutive defeat.

The reverse fixture at Hyderabad was the first in a very long line of matches that tumbled batting records left right and centre. The record for the fastest IPL fifty for SRH was broken twice in the same innings, first by Travis Head, then by Abhishek Sharma. SRH broke even more batting records, but most importantly, broke the then record for the highest team total in IPL (a record they would once again break further in the season). MI tried to fight and put on a fine batting display losing only by 31 runs given the huge target in front of them. MI will look to move away from the bottom of the table and break their losing streak.

Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report

Wankhede Stadium is known to be a batter-friendly pitch, but in the last match, it showed a new form where it was heavily helping the bowlers and posing challenges to the batters. This may not necessarily persist, but it is likely that it will stay thereabouts. This pitch will not necessarily churn out a surface that will let SRH post 277 again, but typical batting friendliness associated with the Wankhede Stadium will stay.

MI vs SRH Strategies & Matchups

The Wankhede is very likely to provide support to the bowlers more than it has been the usual case. The bowlers will be heaving a sigh of relief as they will be able to contribute to the match. The batters need to be careful rather than just throw their wickets away as batters from both sides did here in the last match.

MI’s bowling form issues will also be plaguing them. While SRH’s bowling will be brimming with confidence after some excellent showing at the death propelled them to a 1-run win. The important matchups are Jasprit Bumrah vs Abhishek Sharma, Piyush Chawla vs Heinrich Klaasen, Rohit Sharma vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav vs Pat Cummins, Tim David vs T Natarajan.

Player Battles to Watch Out For

Rohit Sharma vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Kumar has dismissed India’s all-format captain just once in the IPL. Rohit though, has scored 81 runs in 61 balls at an average of 81 and strike rate of 132.78. This match-up will be crucial in the powerplay.

Abhishek Sharma vs Jasprit Bumrah

The other Sharma of note in this contest has managed only 8 runs in 10 balls at a strike rate of 80 while being dismissed once at an average of 8. Sharma is currently leading the strike rate charts this season, and this battle will again put his skills to the test.

X-Factors for MI vs SRH

Mumbai Indians

On a pitch that wouldn’t be extremely helpful to batters, MI’s most consistent and arguably the most skilled batsman Suryakumar Yadav will be key to their chances. If he had received some support in the last match, the story could have been different.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Heinrich Klaasen’s good form will again be the fulcrum of SRH’s batting considering the recent drop in form of all their other batsmen. His impetus towards the end is very crucial for SRH.
