The star opener has registered three consecutive ducks, against the USA (0 off 1), Pakistan (0 off 4), and the Netherlands (0 off 3), recording an unwanted record. He is now the first Indian batter to record three successive ducks in a single T20 World Cup edition.

The dismissal against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad summed up his struggles. Attempting to attack from the first ball, Abhishek went for an ambitious swipe early in his innings, only to see his stumps disturbed. Despite entering the tournament as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter and having one of the highest strike rates in the format, his high-risk approach has backfired.

The 2026 calendar year has already seen him accumulate five ducks in just eight matches, equalling the record for most T20I ducks by an Indian batter in a single year, previously held by Sanju Samson. Notably, this rough patch comes despite India cruising into the Super 8 stage with an unbeaten group run. Abhishek’s name now joins a rare list of players from Full Member nations who have endured consecutive ducks in T20Is.
