Keshav Maharaj becomes No 1 ODI bowler in latest ICC player rankings, dethrones Mohammed Siraj from the top

Ahead of the semi finals of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, there has been a major shift in the ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings as South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has dethroned Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj from the top spot. In the latest update to the rankings, Maharaj has climbed to the top with 726 ratings to his name while Siraj sits on the second spot with 723 ratings.

The 33-year-old has had a magnificent campaign in the ongoing tournament having scalped 14 wickets from nine innings at an average of 24.71 and a brilliant economy of 4.37. Maharaj is the third-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in the ongoing cricketing extravaganza and his best figures of 4/46 came against New Zealand in Pune.

He also bowled a brilliant spell of 1/30 in ten overs against India in a high scoring game in Kolkata. 

Apart from his bowling heroics, Maharaj also shone with the bat for the Proteas in their sixth league fixture against Pakistan in Chennai as he scored the winning boundary in the 48th over with just one wicket left in the innings.
