The first day of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 mega auction was quite an eventful one. The likes of Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and several franchises have been quite active. It is worth noting that Royal Challengers Bengaluru came into the mega auction with one of the highest purses.

The side only retained three of their players ahead of the event and had a sizeable purse with them. They also roped in the likes of Jitesh Sharma and Phil Salt as some of their newest players on Day 1 of the mega auction.

RCB bought Salt for INR 11.5 crore and splashed the cash for Jitesh Sharma, roping him in for INR 11 crore as well. Bringing in two solid wicketkeeper-batters, the side’s batting coach, Dinesh Karthik, came forward and talked about the signings.

“He is a very explosive middle-order batsman. We wanted someone who is on the fringes of the Indian team and he is right there. We have seen what he can do in the IPL. Has got areas that he can hit and RCB being a ground where you can play spin well, he comes as a very, very good option,” Karthik told the broadcasters about Jitesh Sharma.

“Phil Salt, what have I got to say? He is explosive. He is someone who can take on in the power play. Great attitude. Nice guy to have around in the team. Everything about him says he is the kind of guy that RCB would love to have,” he added.

I think it is a discussion that we need to have: Karthik

It is worth noting that both Salt and Jitesh are wicketkeeper-batters, and RCB could have the conundrum of choosing one of the two players to keep the stumps. Reflecting on the same, Karthik opined that the decision for the same will be taken as the tournament approaches.

“I think it is a decision that we will take closer to the tournament. I think it is a discussion that we need to have and see who is the better fielder, who is the better wicketkeeper and accordingly figure out what is the right option,” Karthik said.
