Jemimah Rodrigues opens up on dealing with anxiety throughout Women’s World Cup

Ace Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has revealed her true sentiments of stress and anxiety during India’s title-winning campaign at the 2025 installment of the Women’s World Cup. Jemimah registered 292 runs in seven innings while striking at 101.03 during the recent mega event.

Jemimah, who is one of the best fielders going around in women’s cricket, even shared that she was not being able to concentrate and cherish her fielding due to the burden of expectations which she was under. 

“I was dealing with a lot of anxiety, right from the first match. For some reason, I was not able to get rid of it, sometimes you can’t psych it out. I started getting anxiety even in my fielding thinking, ‘Now that I’ve not scored, I need to do something special.’ I was not able to enjoy my fielding,” stated Jemimah, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The middle-order batter even recounted how her mother stuck to her firmly during the turbulent period and even advised her to leave the tournament midway for the sake of the cricketer’s mental well-being.

“My mom told me one thing ‘Even if you want to leave the World Cup and come back home, I’m okay. I’ll fight with everyone for it. You being happy is what matters to me. You just saying this means the world to me,” she added.

Jemimah’s best performance during the World Cup came during India‘s semi-final clash against Australia in Navi Mumbai. She stayed right till the end to take her team through in what was a record chase by any team in women’s ODI cricket. Jemimah’s anchoring 134-ball 127-run knock comprised 14 fours.

The Women in Blue then went onto defeat South Africa by 52 runs in the summit clash at the same venue a few days later. It was the biggest milestone in Jemimah’s international career from the time she had made her debut in February 2018.
