Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former Australian cricketer Jamie Siddons as the new head coach of the Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Siddons brings with him vast international coaching experience. He previously served as the head coach of the Bangladesh men’s national cricket team from 2007 to 2011. A Level 3 certified coach, Siddons has also worked in domestic setups, including stints as the head coach of the South Australia Redbacks between 2015 and 2020 and New Zealand’s Wellington Firebirds from 2011 to 2015.

According to the announcement made by SLC, Siddons’ one-year contract will officially begin on March 16, 2026.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of former Australian cricketer Jamie Siddons as the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka National Women’s Team,” Sri Lanka Cricket wrote.

During his playing days, Siddons enjoyed a long first-class career in Australia and also captained both the South Australia cricket team and the Victoria cricket team. In 160 First Class matches, he scored 11,587 runs at an average of 44.91. Despite that he never played Test cricket for the Kangaroos, representing them for a single ODI.

In his new role, Siddons will focus on preparing Sri Lanka’s women’s side for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to be held in England in June and July. His first assignment as head coach will be the Sri Lanka Women’s tour of Bangladesh, set to take place from April to May 2026.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Women’s team is in great form. They recently won both the T20I and ODI series against the West Indies as a visiting team. They clinched the ODI series with a margin of 2-1, whereas in the T20I leg, they emerged victorious winning two matches after the first one was washed out.
