The 21-year-old James Rew has been called-up for the upcoming one-off Test against Zimbabwe which will be starting from May 22 at Trent Bridge. The left-handed batter, who has been playing for Somerset, is currently averaging 54.21 in the ongoing season of the County Championship.

The London-born cricketer replaced Jordan Cox in the squad after he sustained an abdominal muscle injury while batting against Somerset in the latest round of the County Championship. The wicketkeeper-batter has an average of 43.35 in his first-class career. The batter had become the youngest English cricketer to score 10 first-class hundreds.

The England squad was announced earlier, with Ben Stokes leading the team and it will have an experienced side. This match will be a four-day affair and will not be part of the World Test Championship cycle, because Zimbabwe are not eligible as per their rankings.

The England men will primarily focus on their upcoming five-match Test series against India, which will begin on June 20 and later put their eyes on displaying their best against the Australians for the Ashes.

Recently, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket. As a result, the Indian team will be looking for a new captain to lead the side in the upcoming series against England, as well as a new opening batter to fill the shoes of the veteran.
