Sri Lanka have been exceptional with the ball in the ongoing ODI World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The Dasun Shanaka-led side didn’t concede more than 200 runs in any of the matches and that proves their consistency with the leather. Spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana have been phenomenal, to say the least, while Lahiru Kumara was looking great before suffering from an injury.

Speaking about the same, batting coach Naveed Nawaz lauded the bowlers and reminded that the batters have failed to get going at times but the bowlers have always looked in great form. Notably, against the Netherlands, the batters failed to put up a show as they posted only 213 runs on board. The bowlers however stepped up their game and helped the team win by 21 runs. Thus, Naveed is very impressed with what the bowlers have done so far but is worried about their batting collapse in the ongoing tournament.

“Throughout the tournament, we have managed to keep every side under 200 so far. . When things went bad at the top end, we were planning how we can get to 240 or 250 and back our bowling to defend it. Looking at the start from where we were, 213 is a good score. We would always back our bowling to defend it,” Naveed was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“It’s a bit of a concern that twice in a few days our batting has collapsed. Once (we collapsed) at the top, and once in the middle. We’ll have to regroup. We’ll have to sit down, talk about it, and see how we’re going to come back in the next game,” he added.

Notably, Sri Lanka need one more win to seal their place in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5 in India. Currently, they are at the top of the super six points table and are on the verge of qualifying for the finals of the competition.
