Former India batter Aakash Chopra has stressed the fact that ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who spearheads Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, has failed to pick up a wicket in three matches of the IPL 2026 that he has played. Chopra believes that Bumrah not being able to strike important wickets is resulting in MI losing out on closely fought encounters.

Bumrah gave away 32 runs in his three overs during MI’s most recent clash against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati without finding any breakthrough in the rain-curtailed encounter. Combining his stats from all three games, Bumrah has conceded 88 runs at an economy rate of 8.00 but hasn’t picked up a wicket. Chopra believes that such stats for a champion bowler like Bumrah are quite hard to digest.

“Jasprit Bumrah, this is an interesting stat, actually. Jassi has bowled 11 overs in three matches, has conceded 88 runs, has an economy of 8.00, and is wicketless. It’s been three matches, and he hasn’t picked up a wicket. The economy is acceptable, as he bowls in the powerplay and at the death and bowls the difficult overs, but he even got hit in this match,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

The five-time champions have looked all the very good with their batting in the 2026 season, but it is the bowling that has cost them a couple of games, as the franchise looks to get back to winning ways. Chopra believes that Bumrah’s stats, even though wicketless, are far more impressive than others, who have given runs in excess of ten an over.

“When you think about the others, you realize that Mumbai have a major bowling problem. Deepak Chahar has conceded 42 runs in four overs in two matches. He has an economy of 10.5. Hardik Pandya has an economy of 11.2. Allah Ghazanfar has an economy of 12. Trent Boult also has an economy of 12,” he observed.

MI will play their next encounter on Sunday, April 12, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and the Hardik Pandya-led side will be hoping to get back to winning form at their home venue. Notably, Mumbai are currently placed seventh on the IPL 2026 Points Table.
