It was my father’s dream to become a cricketer, I’m glad I could fulfill it: Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant said that he is pleased to fulfil his father’s dream to watch him become a cricketer. Notably, Pant encountered a horrific car accident in December 2022 and had been ruled out of action for 14 months. However, he made a sensational comeback during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and finished as the leading run-getter for the Delhi Capitals.

In 13 matches, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 446 runs at an average of 40.55. Pat was rewarded for his consistent performances, as he got picked in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In a recent chat with former India teammate Dhawan, Pant said that he decided to become a cricketer when he was in the 5th grade and received great support from his father.

“It was my father’s dream to become a cricketer, and I’m glad I could fulfil it. I decided I wanted to be a cricketer when I was in the 5th grade. My dad gifted me a bat worth fourteen thousand, and my mom got super angry,” Pant said on the Shikhar Dhawan’s talk show ‘Dhawan Karenge’.

Pant and Dhawan are one of the most adored players in Indian cricket because of their friendly demeanour. They share great relationships, not just with their compatriots but also with players from other countries. However, Dhawan revealed an instance when he got angry at the youngster on the field.

“I was fielding near the boundary during a match against South Africa. Rishabh had told me to move away slightly, but I informed him that the bowler had asked me to stand there. Then, the bowler told me to shift to where Rishabh was suggesting. Confused, I looked at Rishabh to confirm where I needed to stand. He looked towards me and then ignored me, so I got a little angry,” Dhawan said.

Pant is among the first batch of Indian players to have reached the USA ahead of the Men in Blue’s opening fixture of the T20 World Cup against Ireland on June 5. Before this encounter, the Rohit Sharma-led side will play a warm-up match against Bangladesh on June 1.
