Gujrat Titans (GT) are all set to host Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in match 17 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). Gujarat will look to maintain the dominance in their backyard with a victory against Shikhar Dhawan and his men while Punjab, who have won only one game after their three contests, will endeavour to be disciplined in this game to return to the winning ways.

As GT and PBKS are heading towards their first clash of the seventeenth edition, let’s have a look at three players from the 2022 champion side who were once vital stalwarts of Punjab franchise in the cash-rich tournament.

Here are three players who have played for both GT and PBKS:

3. Wriddhiman Saha

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha is an essential part of Gujarat, and he has done a superb job as opener and stumper since 2022. The 39-year-old has scored 753 runs for the Titans in 31 matches at a strike rate of 127.41 with five fifties.

Back in the 2014 auction, Punjab reserved Saha’s services for INR 2.2 crore. Donning PBKS colours, he displayed his batting brilliance against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He played an unbeaten 115-run knock off just 55 deliveries and became the first batter to notch up a century in the IPL finals. Saha was associated with PBKS until 2017 and in those three years, he appeared in 62 games and amassed 1190 runs at a strike rate of 130.48.

2. Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma was the second-leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023, scalping 27 wickets for GT in 14 matches at an economy of 8.17. Along with Mohammed Shami, he formed an amazing fast-bowling duo and delivered solid numbers to GT in the previous season. This year, he is looking in excellent touch with the ball again.

In their last contest, GT handed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) a seven-wicket thumping and Mohit became the Player of the Match for picking 3/25 figures. The veteran speedster will be expected to do wonders with the ball against his previous side Punjab in the upcoming contest. From 2016 to 2018, Mohit showed up in 37 games for PBKS and grabbed 33 wickets at an economy of 9.19.

1. David Miller

South Africa star batter David Miller served PBKS (then Kings XI Punjab) for seven years from 2012 to 2019. In his long stint with the franchise, he delivered numerous match-winning performances to the team’s supporters. The southpaw appeared in 84 games for his debut franchise and scored 1,974 runs at a decent strike rate of 139.40.

Following his dismal performance in 2019, PBKS parted ways with him. In the 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru, Miller was sold to Gujarat for INR 3 crore, and he justified the amount with his extraordinary batting display. In GT’s maiden title triumph, the Protea cricketer chipped in with 481 runs in 16 matches at an impressive strike rate of 142.73.
