Shreyas Iyer is arguably one of the best fielders in world cricket. On Thursday, April 16, he gave another account of his exemplary athleticism at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in the high-voltage clash against the Mumbai Indians.
In the 18th over of the first innings, Marco Jansen bowled an off-pace delivery angling across Hardik Pandya. The Baroda all-rounder reached for the big shot but only got it off the toe-end of the bat. It was still looking destined for a maximum, but Shreyas intervened. The PBKS skipper leapt sideways after running to his left from long-on and caught the ball reverse cup. He was airborne at the time he took the catch.
However, he realised he was falling over the ropes and instantly, he tossed the ball back to Xavier Bartlett, who caught it comfortably. Shreyas’ effort ended Hardik’s 14-run knock off 12 balls, leaving the MI dugout stunned.
