Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma scored his first century of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) after hitting two consecutive sixes off the bowling of Nitish Rana in the 15th over during the game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday, April 21.

Abhishek was batting on 92 before Rana began his final over of the innings, having already gone for 32 from his first three overs. The left-handed batter struck a massive six down the ground on the first ball. The 25-year-old did not decide to play it safe to get to his second IPL hundred while batting on 98.

Rana pitched the ball short, and Abhishek was ready to pounce, going on the back foot to hit a second successive six over the deep square leg fielder.

It was, however, not all rosy for SRH in Rana’s over. After hitting two sixes off the first two balls and then getting a boundary off the third ball, Abhishek hit a straight drive towards the bowlers, only for the ball to ricochet off Rana’s hands onto the non-strikers’ end’s stumps, dismissing captain Ishan Kishan.

Abhishek’s innings of 135 not out propelled SRH to a total of 242 from their quota of 20 overs. He was helped brilliantly by Heichrich Klaasen’s unbeaten knock of 37 from just 13 balls towards the end.
