The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a highly-anticipated top-four clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Match 49 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, May 6.

The 2016 champions will want to bounce back and grab a win after suffering defeat at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous home game, their first defeat in six matches after a five-match winning run.

SRH have one of the strongest top orders in the IPL this season, which provided them with an excellent start against KKR. However, the middle order let them down against the three-time champions, which was one of the main reasons behind their loss.

The Sunrisers’ bowling unit will also have their work cut out against PBKS and their quick-scoring batters. It will be an even contest between bat and ball on Wednesday evening.

Here is SRH’s strongest predicted XI vs PBKS, Match 49, IPL 2026:

Top Order: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (WK)

Forming one of the most dangerous top orders in the IPL, both Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have been in excellent form all season long. The former is currently the Orange Cap holder, with 440 runs at a strike-rate of 206.57 whilst averaging close to 50. Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, is also enjoying a great season, hitting at a strike-rate of 189.30 in 10 innings.

Middle Order: Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora, Aniket Verma

Heinrich Klassen remains the flagbearer of SRH’s middle order. The South African batter is his side’s second-highest run-scorer this season with 425 runs at an average of 53.12. SRH always find healthy contributions from any of their other middle-order players. Nitish Kumar Reddy has scored 193 runs, while Salil Arora is capable of providing a great finishing touch, hitting at 161.01 this season.

Bowlers: Pat Cummins (C), Shivang Kumar, Harshal Patel, Sakib Hussain

The return of Pat Cummins has been a major boost for SRH as they look to cement their place in the top four this season. However, it has been another overseas bowler who has led the bowling attack in the Australian’s absence. Eshan Malinga is currently SRH’s leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets from 10 matches. He has partnered well with Sakib Hussain, who has nine scalps to his name and is enjoying a wonderful debut campaign.
