Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Dilshan Madushanka as an injury replacement for Brydon Carse for the remainder of the IPL 2026 season. The Sri Lankan left-arm seamer joins the franchise for INR 75 lakh, strengthening their pace attack at a crucial stage of the tournament.

Carse, who had been retained ahead of the 2026 auction, suffered a right-hand injury while batting in the nets prior to SRH’s opening clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). At the time, head coach Daniel Vettori had expressed optimism about a quick recovery, but the injury has ultimately ruled the England international out of the competition.

Madushanka, though yet to make his IPL debut, brings valuable international experience. He has represented Sri Lanka in one Test, 28 ODIs, and 19 T20Is, claiming a total of 70 wickets across formats. Interestingly, he was previously part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2024 season but missed the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

SRH’s bowling unit has been under scrutiny this season, especially with captain Pat Cummins recovering from injury and experienced bowlers like Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat struggling for consistency. This led the team management to hand debuts to young pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain in their recent match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

The move paid immediate dividends, as both rookies impressed by picking up four wickets each in a dominant 57-run victory. SRH posted a formidable 216/6, powered by a blistering 91 off 44 balls from captain Ishan Kishan. For Rajasthan, Jofra Archer was the standout bowler with figures of 2/37, while Donovan Ferreira fought hard with a 69 in the chase. However, RR were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, with Hinge returning 4/34 and Hussain claiming 2/24.

They are currently placed fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches and will look to build momentum when they face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
