Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Subramanian Badrinath issued a clarification after one of his controversial remarks during the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) went viral on social media.

The incident took place during the match 54 off the IPL 2026 in Raipur when Badrinath, who was part of the Tamil commentary panel, spoke about Krunal Pandya struggling with cramps during RCB’s batting innings.

At the same time, MI wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton was seen helping Krunal stretch on the field. Soon after the clip surfaced online, several users alleged that Badrinath mocked the all-rounder’s condition by saying Rickelton should “let him die” instead of helping an opposition player.

The former Tamil Nadu cricketer, however, denied the interpretation and clarified that his statement had been misunderstood due to colloquial Tamil through his social media.

Breaking his silence on the controversy, Badrinath explained that he was actually praising Rickelton’s sportsmanship despite the high-pressure nature of the game and Krunal being one of the key players for RCB in the chase.

“Let him die there”… that’s not going to be my attitude. I will go and stretch him. Great gesture from Ryan Rickelton.. Fair Play points should be given to him and MI for that. This is what I said on air, for people who don’t understand colloquial Tamil,” Badrinath wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, the thrilling contest ended in favour of RCB, who climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 points table with a dramatic two-wicket win over MI. The defeat also confirmed Mumbai’s elimination from the playoff race.

Krunal emerged as one of the standout performers for RCB with a crucial knock of 73. However, after his dismissal, the defending champions found themselves under pressure before Bhuvneshwar Kumar turned the game around with a six at a crucial stage when RCB required nine runs off the final three deliveries.

Needing two runs off the last ball, Rasikh Salam Dar and Bhuvneshwar completed a quick run to seal a memorable victory for RCB. Bhuvneshwar was also named Player of the Match for his brilliant all-round contribution, which included a four-wicket haul and an unbeaten seven-run cameo off just two deliveries.
