The Rajasthan Royals take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 28 of the 2026 Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Royals are coming off the back of a 57-run hammering against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, their first loss of the season. Chasing 217, they found themselves reeling at 9/5 courtesy a fantastic four-wicket opening burst from debutant Praful Hinge.
They have been heavily reliant on the form of their top three, and in Hyderabad, it was an unusual off-day for all of them. Their bowling attack is still one of the most lethal in the competition and will be bolstered by the wicket at the Eden Gardens, which provides aid for both the quicks and spinners. The Royals will be on the lookout for the win, as they aim to put the hiccup in Hyderabad behind them.
Here is the strongest, most probable XI for the Rajasthan Royals for Match 28 vs KKR:
Top order: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel (WK)

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have been one of the most prolific opening pairs in the 2026 IPL. Despite the blip against the Sunrisers, the young pair have been in fine form this season. The 15-year-old Vaibhav has lit up the IPL, scoring 200 runs at a blistering strike rate of 263 while also recording two 15-ball half-centuries. Jaiswal, the senior batter of the two, has scored 184 runs at a strike rate of 157, with a match-winning knock in the rain-curtailed game against the Mumbai Indians.
Dhruv Jurel completes the Royals’ top three, who have done most of the heavy lifting with the bat. Batting in a new position in 2026, the wicketkeeper-batter has scored 176 runs at a strike rate of 178. He has played match-defining knocks against Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, settling into his new role with ease.
Middle order: Riyan Parag (C), Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Donovan Ferreira, Ravindra Jadeja

Captain Riyan Parag has yet to make a significant impact with the bat for the Royals, scoring just 49 runs in the five games. While a lot of it can be attributed to the top-order doing the heavy lifting, Riyan, in the past, has been prolific with the bat and will be expected to make his mark as the skipper.
South Africa’s highly-rated prospect Lhuan-dre Pretorious played his first game of 2026 against the Sunrisers but was unable to make a mark. The 20-year-old is a clean ball-striker and is expected to make his mark on the IPL. Donovan Ferreira got runs against the Sunrisers, scoring 69 and stitching a partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 45. Jadeja has been used variably with the ball in the last few games.
Lower order/bowlers: Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, Sandeep Sharma, Ravi Bishnoi, Tushar Deshpande (Impact)

Jorfra Archer and Nandre Burger have been lethal with the new ball, bowling at high pace, extracting movement and making batters uncomfortable. Archer has picked up seven wickets to Burger’s five. Sandeep Sharma and Tushar Deshpande have been reliable in the middle and death overs, helping keep the runs in check. The pair had an off-day against the Sunrisers, going at over 11 runs an over.
Ravi Bishnoi has undergone a brilliant resurgence with the Royals. He has been the pick of the bowlers with nine wickets, bowling with deception and guile. While he had an off-day against the Sunrisers, he is expected to play a significant role on an Eden Gardens wicket that has provided help for spinners in the 2026 season.
