Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are set to face each other in match No. 47 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, May 4.
This is a clash between two teams that came into the tournament with high hopes, but things haven’t gone their way so far. The Mumbai Indians have lost seven out of the nine matches they have played. Meanwhile, Lucknow have six defeats, having played one game fewer.
The team that loses on Monday could find itself at the bottom of the table at the end of the season. However, the winning team will keep their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. Lucknow are coming into this clash on the back of a much-needed break, having lost their last five matches. Mumbai, on the other hand, lost to the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday and will have to regroup quickly.
Here are the top player battles to watch out for from Match 47:
3. Naman Dhir vs Mohsin Khan

Naman Dhir’s performances with the bat have been one of the rare silver linings for Mumbai this season. The right-handed batter has scored 233 runs in nine innings at an average of 29.13 and a strike rate of 147.17. He scored a gritty half-century in the last game against Chennai and would be high on confidence.
Mohsin Khan, on the other hand, seems to have returned to his best. In the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders, the left-arm seamer finished with figures of 5/23, his best in the shortest format. Mohsin will look to swing the new ball and cause problems for the Mumbai top-order.
2. Ryan Rickelton vs Mohammed Shami

Ryan Rickelton has played some exhilarating knocks for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. This includes his magnificent century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is averaging 49.50 and has an average of 177.85 after playing seven matches.
Mohammed Shami has blown hot and cold this season. He has done well with the new ball, but his bowling in the death overs hasn’t been as effective. Rishabh Pant might want to give him three overs upfront. It will be intriguing to see how Shami fares against the dangerous Rickelton on a pitch that should favour the batters.
1. Aiden Markram vs AM Ghazanfar

Aiden Markram has got himself a few starts but has not managed to convert them into substantial scores. In eight innings, he has scored 193 runs at an average of 24.13 and a strike rate of 144.03. He likes playing on the up, and he will be able to do that at the Wankhede, where the bounce can be trusted.
AM Ghazanfar has performed decently for the Mumbai Indians. He bowls a few freebies here and there, but that is not unexpected from a young mystery spinner who is still trying to master his craft. In seven matches, Ghazanfar has picked up 11 wickets at an economy rate of 9.50.
