The Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat the Delhi Capitals in dominant fashion by nine wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Match 39 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.

Bowling first, the defending champions dismantled the Delhi Capitals in the powerplay. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar started proceedings by dismissing debutant Sahil Parak through the gate before Josh Hazlewood followed his effort up by dismissing Capitals’ star KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi off successive balls in the next over. Bhuvaneshwar then had Tristan Stubbs nick one to slip, and Axar Patel fell two balls later. Hazlewood then dismissed Nitish Rana, leaving the Capitals reeling at 8/6 in the powerplay.

Delhi Capitals were never able to get the momentum going in their innings, finishing the powerplay on 13/6. David Miller fell to Rasikh Salam Dar in the ninth over, leaving the Capitals at 43/7 and they were eventually bowled out for 75 in 16.3 overs, with Hazlewood dismissing Abhishek Porel to finish with match figures of 4/12, his best figures in the IPL

The Royal Challengers made light work of the chase, with Jacob Bethell starting in blistering fashion. He fell after scoring 20 off just 11 balls, top-edging one to T Natarajan, who completed a brilliant catch running to the boundary from mid-on. Devdutt Padikkal took the attack to the Delhi Capitals bowlers, finishing unbeaten on 34 off just 12 balls, while Virat Kohli finished unbeaten on 23 off 15 balls, reaching the milestone of 9000 IPL runs in the process. The defending champions completed the chase in just 6.3 overs.

The win takes the Royal Challengers Bengaluru up to seventh place in the table, with six wins and two losses from eight games. The Delhi Capitals now find themselves in seventh place, recording their fifth loss of the season.
